IPN Student Spotlight: Ashish Marediya, Graduate Student at Texas A&M University
Ashish graduated with a degree in economics from Texas A&M University in 2018, and is now a Masters of Finance graduate student, planning to graduate in 2020. He is interested in financial services, particularly investment/asset management.
In the summer of 2019, Ashish interned at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). During this time, he reviewed 500+ Investment General Partner financial reports and documented key areas of control and assurance, and analyzed the NAVs of funds using an audit matrix. He also reconciled investment information from General Partners and custodian banks to detect differences in wire transfers, and also surveyed them to understand differences in reported values. Additionally, he assisted in the review, analysis, and implementation of GASB accounting standards, and was involved in the preparation of internal Investment reports to reveal the compliance of General Partners by comparing the methods used in financial reports to the stated methods in the Independent Auditor’s Report. Lastly, Ashish presented his project introducing efficiency of Robotic Process Automation in audit processes to cut costs and free employees to perform higher value-added work.
His future plans include beginning his career as an investment analyst, and working his way up to becoming a portfolio manager, and eventually a managing director of public markets at an investment firm. We’re rooting for you, Ashish!
