Aly is a Managing Director in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Citigroup Global Markets in New York focused on Media and Technology clients. Since joining the firm in 2005 as an Associate, Aly has worked on a variety of buy-side and sell-side domestic and cross-border advisory assignments in the Media sector and previously, the Consumer / Retail sectors.
Aly’s transaction experience includes: IPG’s $2.3bn acquisition of Acxiom Marketing Solutions (pending), the $105bn sale of Time Warner Entertainment to AT&T, the $79bn sale of Time Warner Cable to Charter, Sony Music Entertainment’s buy-in of 50% of The Orchard, the defense of Time Warner Entertainment against 21st Century Fox, the $900mm sale of Sears’ Craftsman brand to Stanley Black & Decker, advisor to Under Armour’s Special Committee on its Class C share recapitalization, advisor to the Special Committee of Lululemon, Albertson’s $9bn merger with Safeway and related regulatory divestitures, Heineken’s $7.6bn acquisition of FEMSA Cerveza, and the sale of Applebees International to IHOP Corp.
Aly is the Vice Chairman of Education Through Music (“ETM”), a non-profit focused on music education with a purpose of restoring music education programs back to New York inner city schools. Aly joined the organization in 2012 and is actively involved in strategic planning and reevaluating the long term growth strategy of ETM. Aly also serves as the Chairman of the Aga Khan Foundation for the Northeast and previously served as Chairman of the Economic Planning Board for the Aga Khan Ismaili Council for the Northeast.
Aly has an MBA from Columbia Business School where he graduated Beta Gamma Sigma and a BSc. in Cell Biology and Genetics from the University of British Columbia. Aly is also a CFA charterholder. Aly resides in New York City with his wife and two children.
